Chom chom

 

   Jaipur,Chom chom is a traditional bengali sweet dish originated from Porabari, Tangail, Bangladesh. It is a very popular dessert in Bangladesh and India. The cuisine comes in a variety of colors, mainly light pink, light yellow, and white. It is coated with coconut flakes as a garnish. The sweet is oval and brownish.

Porabari in Tangail District, Bangladesh, has been famous for chomchom for 150 years. For last couple of years most chomchom stores were shifted to Panch Ani Bazar, centre of Tangail city.But do not think like it is only available in these districts chom chom is famous and we can buy it in our Rajasthan in our jaipur too.In our Jaipur many famous shops have there unique taste of chom chom.We have shared simple recipe of chom chom have a look.. 

 

Ingredients :-

For the Panner :

  1. Milk – 1/2 liter
  2. Lemon Juice – 1 big
  3. For making the Cham Cham
  4. Paneer – made from 1/2 lit
  5. All purpose flour / Maida – 2 tsp

For the Sugar Syrup :

  1. Sugar – 1/2  cup
  2. Water 1/2 cup
  3. Kesar colour – few drops

For the Malai :

  1. Condensed Milk – 3 tbsp
  2. Saffron strands few
  3. Pistachios – 5 -6, slivered

 

Method :-

Once the paneer is ready, knead it with 2 tsp of flour to a soft dough. Pinch into small balls and shape them into oval shape.

For the syrup:

  1. Heat the sugar in a pan with enough water to make a thin syrup. Add the saffron strands and kesar colour for the chum chum to absorb.
  2. Add the paneer and cook for 5 mins. When you see that it’s done, allow it to cool.
  3. For the Cham Cham
  4. Once the cham cham are cooled, remove from the sugar syrup.
  5. Spread the condensed milk over the chum chum and top it with slivered Pistachios. Serve it chilled.
